I was looking at my binders of Pokémon cards the other day, and I remembered something when I came across my collection of fakes.
About 12-13 years ago, there were kids in neighborhood who would go to the Swap Meet with their parents on the weekend. They would spend their allowance of some cards. One of the kids hung out with Ashton at the time, and one day he was over and the three of us were playing the card game. I noticed something was strange about some of his cards and realized they were fake. It made me mad, and so, since I had a few extras of the real card, I gave him a real card and took the fake one. Every weekend after that, anytime he bought any new loose cards from the Swap Meet, the kid would come to me so I could inspect them for him.
If I came across other fakes in the few the kid brought to me over time, and I had extras of the real card, I would trade again. The rarer cards I wasn't to do that with. :[ I showed him what to look for so that he wouldn't ripped off again.
It upset me a lot that the Swap Meet vendor would steal from kids like that. But then again, did the vendor know that those cards were fake? Did they do it on purpose? Why?
