One thing that really pisses me off about election time is that they announce the winner BEFORE polling places on the West Coast/Alaska/Hawaii are closed, usually while people are STILL WAITING IN LINE for their turn to vote. It really makes one feel like their vote does not count.
Personally, I think the winner should not be announced until the Monday following Election Day, and all votes dated AFTER election Day should not be counted. This way, everyone has a chance to vote. I know it has something to do with the Electoral College (a group of people that I feel votes however they want, regardless of the popular vote), but still. Wait until the following Monday to announce the winner.
Make people feel like their vote actually matters. The illusion is important.
